Ross Paterson puts his best foot forward

Ross Paterson has successfully completed the start-up of his business, with his hard work and determination he has managed to complete the NEA (New Enterprise Allowance) process and start trading successfully. Ross is in regular contact with his business advisor here at Brag but at this stage he is happily trading with his business and is in excellent position in the market with over 1000 likes on his Facebook business page already.

Ross attended the New Enterprise Allowance workshop at Brag Enterprises (Fife) on 11th May 2017 looking to start self-employment through the programme. During the workshop Ross was very keen and took part in the group exercises. Ross has great character, motivation and is very business minded.

Ross returned to Brag for an initial assessment on 22nd May 2017. During the IA with Business Advisor, Linsey Marshall, Ross showed great knowledge in his business proposal along with a drive and passion to succeed. Ross’s business idea, Sneaker/Trainer Restoration is unique to Fife making his business idea highly viable. Ross was enrolled onto the programme with no hesitations. Ross explained that he has had a difficult past in his personal life which has given him the motivation to make his business succeed and be successful.

Ross was very keen to start the business as he had been receiving a lot of interest. Ross has been restoring his own trainers along with friends and family as a favour and to get practice in restoring different types of trainers/sneakers. Ross has been receiving excellent feedback from friends of friends and family. This has given Ross the drive to start trading as soon as possible as people are looking to give him orders as soon as he is up and running.

Ross started working on this business plan along with support from his business advisor. Ross’s plan was very detailed and his research was excellent. Proving that there was no direct competition within the Fife or even East of Scotland. Ross’s business plan was approved on 2nd June 2017.

On 13th June 2017 Ross arranged to come into Brag with his NEAL7 letter received from JCP advising he started trading on 12th June 2017, he also completed a business start checklist. We discussed in detail his next steps including registering with HMRC which Ross was going to do that day. Ross confirmed he has already started to receive orders including one order from down south in England. Ross is overwhelmed with how much interest he has received in so little time. Ross has already been thinking about the future and how to grow his business. In the future he is also looking to produce and sell trainer/sneaker related T-shirts. We at Brag believe Ross will have a very successful business.
