Damon cooks up a treat

Damon Thomson took part in our joint project with Greener Kirkcaldy ‘Food Works!’ early last year. Designed to offer local people in Kirkcaldy, food and horticulture volunteer training opportunities as well as healthy eating awareness advice.

Damon had a background working in care, hospitality and family mediation but before the course had held several volunteering posts. Damon was a good student and worked very well with others. He completed the course, gaining three City & Guilds modules in an Introductory award in employability skills. Damon then went on to volunteer in the smart cooking training sessions with Greener Kirkcaldy. He later applied and was accepted into college in September last year, He plans to continue his career in the social care sector.

Speaking of his learning journey Damon said: “When I first started the Food Works course, I was quite nervous, and I lacked confidence in my working ability and my ability to cope with the demands of the course.  Fortunately, my confidence has grown immensely, and I have benefited greatly from all the help and support that I have received whilst on the course.  My cooking skills have really improved, and I am much more confident in the kitchen and cooking meals from scratch.  On top of that I have benefited a lot from the employability side too and feel like I am capable of gaining future employment.”

I’m sure you will join us in wishing Damon the very best of luck in his future career.
