Good news for Bee Buddies

We were delighted this weekend to discover that one of our local projects ‘Bee Buddies’ were winners in the STV people’s projects. The group will buy a mobile education centre, with a live beehive, so they can plan and deliver more workshops in nurseries, schools and community groups throughout Fife. They will also be able to take the centre to a range of public events throughout the region to promote greater awareness of the importance of bees and their ecological impact. With an award of £49,400 we know that this will make a massive impact on the work that they are able to deliver locally. Well done Bee Buddies.

Fife Soup

We hosted our second Fife Soup event here at Brag on the 20th of April. Soup is a democratic crowd funding event, with soup, entertainment and buttons to vote with.

Our four pitchers were Gumption Girls, who deliver confidence building courses for girls and young women through science, the Rosyth EATS project, who put food in bellies not bins, Families in Trauma who provide on-line support to families going through trauma and finally our winner Oor Wee Café, who are opening a pay what you can afford café in Kelty.

The evenings entertainment was provided by the Songburds. We all had a great night and are looking forward to the next one which will run again in September. If you are interested in pitching, entertaining or just coming along for a good night out, get in touch with the team.

Fife Social Enterprise Network

Our recent spring meeting had over 40 Fife Social Enterprises and related organisations in attendance. Our new informal format appears to be working well and our speakers were

Brian Robertson-Fern, Brag Enterprises (standing in for Will Tyler-Greig, Scottish Govt) talking about the Social Enterprise 10 year Action Plan

Nicola Buchanan, Fife Council - giving us invaluable information about local and national funding

Fiona Elliot, Scottish Enterprise - informing SEs about the free research and market info tool – an amazing resource

Lee Walls, Brag Enterprises - telling us about the next Soup event and what’s involved

The next FSEN date for your diary is 10:00 – 12:00 (coffee and Danish pastries….) on 20th June,

Don’t forget, the Social Enterprise Team at Brag are here to give you support so whether you are struggling with business planning, need some help finding funding, free training / workshops, new board members or want to learn new skills or maybe you want to share a good news story, please do get in touch with Sue or Lee.
