Cowdenbeath Foodbank

The Organisation

Dunfermline Foodbank (which includes Cowdenbeath) was started in 2012 by a John Drylie and Ian Hepburn who burned with a passion to meet the needs of those struggling in poverty by means of providing accessible food provision. Over the next four years, Dunfermline Foodbank then multiplied into a further four satellites with outreach sites in Benarty, Cowdenbeath, Inverkeithing and Rosyth. This allowed coverage of the whole of South/West Fife, engaging with 200+ volunteers whi helped make this possible.

At all times, we strive to work together to the benefit of those we serve and together we have sought to make a significant difference in the lives of those we support.

Referrals and Support

Users are referred to the Foodbank by a variety of supporting front line professionals and agencies. Our local referral agencies include social work departments, health professionals etc, including the local Citizens Advice & Rights Fife offices.

As well as providing nutritionally-balanced food parcels, the Foodbank also directs users to other support services if appropriate depending of the individual’s personal circumstances.

Activity

Our latest published stats (April ’16 – March ’17) showed 2122 three-day emergency food supplies were given out, supporting 2963 adults with 1637 going to children, a total of 4600 people.

Since we opened we have given out 8077 three-day emergency food supplies were given out, supporting 10,940 adults with 5672 going to children, a total of 16,612 people.

As a significant volume of food is sorted and handled, an efficient process team is required to ensure that all the food sent out is well inside its sell by dates. Without the support of 200+ regular volunteers the Foodbank would not be able to operate. Your continued support and donations also makes this possible
