Square Start, a family support project delivered by Brag Enterprises, held their Square Start Gala Day on Thursday 14th July. This was the team’s largest in person event since the Coronavirus Pandemic. Square Start is a holistic full family support project funded by Opportunities Fife’s No One Left Behind fund. Support is given to parents who are socially isolated and those who want family and parenting support, giving them social interaction with other families, cooking on a budget skills and training.
The ‘free for registered families’ event was held in The Liberty Centre grounds in Dunfermline and families were treated to an afternoon of fun and games in the sunshine. There was Hook a Duck with prizes, a raffle, bouncy castle, a 42 foot inflatable assault course, facepainting, a scavenger hunt and music. Food on offer was hot dogs, baked potatoes, chilli, hot and cold drinks followed by biscuits and ice cream.
The children had a great afternoon and treated us to a showcase of their talents in Square Start’s Got Talent. Our judges agreed it was a very difficult decision but declared the winner 7 year old Lily Johnson-Clarke, who stole the show with her fantastic dance performance.
A great day was had by all but a special thank you goes to The Liberty Centre Venue as well as our volunteers, Pat, Fiona, Jon, Craig and Margaret, Stuarts the bakers for donations of cheese and Square Start double biscuits, Asda and their Community Champion Barbara Inglis who volunteered on the day and supplied raffle prizes, The Bouncy Castle Man for the inflatables, Frontline Fife for volunteering on the day for set up and delivery, Youth 1st – Square Start’s Got Talent and Hi5 awards, Square Start Parent Committee – Donna, Sam, Megan, Danielle and Natalie. Our Face Painters – Rae and Veronica, Odeon Cinema donations of Family Tickets, Adventure Golf Island donation of a Family Ticket, Christies Dunfermline – Meal Voucher, Hollywood Bowl for donation of bowling vouchers and finally to Rylee our Summer Intern for volunteering on the day.
