Benefits of Working

There are huge benefits to getting a job, no matter how well or under paid, over not having a job at all.

Money Money Money!

Although this should not be seen as the only benefit to working, it will likely be high on the list. Earning a wage means you are able to pay for things yourself, it allows you to treat yourself to things you otherwise couldn’t afford.

Who Am I?

Having a job gives you a sense of identity, it defines who you are as an individual. It doesn’t indicate everything about you but it is a starting point of who you are and what you do. Think about when you meet someone for the first time, you are normally asked “What do you do?” Being able to respond to this question with the type of job you do will give you an identity.

Keeping the Brain Active

Whatever job you do will have elements to it that you have to learn, the workplace will provide you with the tools and resources for you to carry out the job and in some cases this will all be new to you so you are learning new skills and adding to your existing ones.

Meeting New People

When starting a new job you come in to contact with people you would otherwise never have met. Most of us stay confined to our close circle of friends, unless we are forced to go out and interact with people we tend to shy away from this. You will meet people with different personalities and backgrounds and this has the potential to lead to out of work relationships and lifelong friendships.

Giving you Balance in your Life

Having a job provides your life with structure, you will likely work a set amount of hours per week, your day will be divided into work time and time for yourself, this way you’ll appreciate your days off and look forward to holidays rather than days running into each other.

Having a Purpose

This might sound off but working at a job will provide you with meaning and a sense of purpose, no job in the world is useless otherwise it would not exist and someone would not be paying you to do it.

Healthy Body Healthy Mind

Returning to work from unemployment results in significant health improvements, physical and mental and increases your self-esteem and helps with your outlook on life

Once you take this first step back into work you can then start setting goals and working towards your ambitions for the future.

“Without ambition one starts nothing, without work one finishes nothing. The prize will not be sent to you, you have to win it”

  • Ralph Waldo Emerson
